Hilkiah

Hilkiah
Several persons of this name are mentioned in the OT, of whom the chief is a high priest who announced the discovery of a law book during building work in the Temple (2 Kgs. 22–3). It has been widely assumed that this book, enthusiastically welcomed by King Josiah, was Deuteronomy, or part of it, and that it precipitated the reforms he instituted in eliminating places of worship outside Jerusalem, and centralizing the cult in the Temple.
